At Newlands we want you to feel comfortable sending your children into school in these unsettling times.

On this page you will find information on social distancing, cleaning regime and other measures we are taking to keep our children, staff and wider community safe.

Children who must not attend school will fall into the categories below:

Children who are clinically extremely vulnerable;
Children who live with someone who is extremely vulnerable;
Children with symptoms or are self-isolating due to symptoms in their household.

A typical day will start with a staggered arrival, please be aware that you may not be able to enter the site from your usual gate and will have to follow a one-way system and social distancing guidelines. Members of staff will be on hand to help with this.

We ask that only one adult accompanies the children to and from school to reduce numbers in the waiting areas.

Children will be welcomed into class by the members of staff assigned to their bubbles.

The children will spend the day within their own bubble, which includes the staff they are with. These bubbles will not mix with each other, will stay in the same classroom throughout the day and will be socially distanced from each other whilst on the playground.

Lunch will be eaten in the classroom, at socially distanced desks.

Children will be asked to use one designated set of toilets and only one child will be allowed to go to the toilet at a time.

Children will be given the opportunity to go outside as often as possible, please plan for this accordingly and put sun cream on your children if the weather will be nice or make sure they have a coat if it’s not.

Uniform is not required at present, please make sure your children are dressed appropriately and be aware that they will do PE in the clothes they are wearing.

Equipment in school will not be able to be shared, each child will have their own stationary kit. Please ensure children do not bring in their own stationary, non essential items or personal belongings.

At collection time the same one way system will be used, please wait in the designated areas at 2 metres distance from one another. Please be considerate of others and do not gather at gates or too close to the doors.

Key worker children will continue to enter and exit the school as usual, and will remain in their own bubbles.

New rules will be shared with the children around hand washing, close contact situations and personal hygiene.

Please support us by talking to your children about the importance of these things, including following instructions from adults, only talking when your mouth is empty, flushing the toilet, washing hands thoroughly and giving virtual hugs to their friends.

Breakfast and after school clubs will not be running until further notice.

Parent Pay
Cashless schools are safer for everyone in these unprecedented times.
As parents and carers start thinking about the return to school we would like to make everyone aware that Salmestone is going cash free.
Parent Pay is easy to use, compatible with most devices, can be topped up via debit card or paypoint and will allow you to pay for school dinners whenever it’s convenient (not just during office hours)
Please see the video below for a quick overview.
More information will be made available as and when pupils return.
