Uniform
We have a school uniform at Newlands which we require children to wear at all times. The uniform is practical and comfortable and gives the children a sense of belonging to the school.
Throughout May and June 2022 our school council held a consultation regarding proposed changes to our school uniform.
These changes were prompted in the first instance by the rising costs of living we are all facing and the Government's statutory guidance on the cost of school uniforms which was published in November 2021.
Following this process changes were made to our uniform which are outlined in the letter below.
Uniform letter from Mr Bailey 28.06.22
The Newlands Uniform
(this will be the standard uniform from September 2024)
- Dark grey trousers, shorts or skirt
- Newlands branded maroon school jumper or cardigan
- White polo shirt
- Optional- red and white gingham summer dress
- White, grey or black tights or socks
- Black shoes
Our P.E Kit
- Black shorts, joggers or leggings
- Plain white t-shirt
- Suitable trainers or black plimsolls
- Optional- Newlands branded maroon hooded sweatshirt
On your child's PE day please ensure that they are not wearing any jewellery.
If earrings cannot be taken out, then tape must be put over the top of the earrings. Furthermore, please ensure that if your child has long hair, this is tied back. These expectations are in place to keep your child and their peers safe during PE lessons.
With the exception of our jumpers/cardigans and optional hoodies our uniform can be purchased from high street stores.
Our branded school uniform is available to purchase from the Schoolwear Centre, Brigade Clothing or via our Nearly New second hand uniform shop.
Alongside our school uniform it is expected that children will only wear one set of small stud earrings if they have pierced ears, which will need to be removed or covered for pe lessons- our staff cannot do this for the children.
During term-time pupils are asked not to have fashion hairstyles which include: dyed or streaked hair, shaved patterns, mohawks, lines and tramlines. Coloured hair braids, tinsels and feathers should not be worn.
Long hair (below shoulder length) should be tied back.
Hair accessories should be minimal, plain and in school colours. Hair should be kept out of children’s eyes using headbands, clips and slides; again plain using school colours.
