Quex Park 2026
On Tuesday 24th March 2026, Minnis Bay embarked on an exciting adventure to Quex Park Farm. The class were having the opportunity to embed all their learning so far this term, learn something new and apply their learning to real life experiences at Quex.
The day started with a talk from George. He gave the children lots of fascinating information about how bread starts with the tractors turning over the soil, to then planting the seeds, which then grow to become wheat which is taken to the mill to be made into flour, before being used by bakers for bread. The class had lots of opportunities to feel and observe the different parts of the process to how we get bread, from touching the seeds, the flour to the grains of wheat. This was a fantastic opportunity for the class to learn about the role of farmers in helping us get bread, and they had to use their learning about what plants need in order to grow to help answer George's questions.
After our lesson about bread, the children were then bursting with excitement as they lined up ready for the animal encounters. The class enjoyed being close to the baby goats and being able to pet them. The class found it particularly funny when the baby goats kept on trying to chew Mrs Haworth's coat and Miss Warner's shoe laces! We also got to feed the big goat, and watch Dennis (the goat) kick Jamie in the head, as he jumped up for his food. We then saw two pigs in their pen, but this was very smelly. After that, we had to be super quiet as we went to see the sheep, as they get very scared with lots of loud people. The class were amazing at feeding the sheep quietly. Then we went to see two Shetland ponies. We tried to feed them some grass, but they were more interested in the real grass on the ground. Finally, after all of our exciting animal encounters, we then washed our hands ready to have some lunch.
After we had our lunch the class really enjoyed playing on the bouncy pillows. Miss Warner and Mrs Douhgton couldn't resist the fun, so also joined the children. They showed great empathy for others, as they ensured that they were careful as they were bouncing on the pillows. It was great to see so many happy faces as they continually ran along them and jumped up and down.
Finally, to finish an amazing day, the class were able to experience a tractor ride. We completed the first lap, which the children really enjoyed, even though it was very bumpy. They saw some dinosaurs on the journey, and an Easter Egg hunt trail. Then for our second lap, the children showed immense courage as they were asked if they wanted to go fast, and there was a roar of noise as the children shouted "yes!" The tractor then went really fast for one part of the lap, which the class enjoyed so much they continued to chant for "more speed".
Overall, this was an incredible trip, which offered the children lots of learning opportunities not only about farm life and farm animals but how to look after animals. Miss Warner said "I am immensely proud of the entire class. For their first school trip, they were incredible. They listened well, and followed all of the instructions given to them about how to behave and how to carefully treat the animals. I loved seeing the children go outside of their comfort zone and have a go with petting or feeding the animals, and then really enjoying this experience."
